It was a time of celebration in Coaldale on Thursday as a grand opening was held for phase one of the MPE LINK Pathway.
Once fully completed, the 15-kilometre path will connect the southern Alberta town with Lethbridge and provide a smooth and safe route for pedestrians and cyclists.
Phase one is a 4.1 kilometre stretch from the St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRD) drainage canal across from 30 Street in Coaldale to an area just before Highway 512, with a turnaround section before the highway.
MPE LINK Pathway Committee Chair, Henry Doeve, says excitement is in the air and it is great to see such strong community collaboration as part of this project.
“We named it the LINK on purpose because it links communities – Lethbridge and Coaldale through Lethbridge County, the SMRD, we just see [that] there’s possibilities,” Doeve remarks.
